Nine Men's Morris

The Ancient Mill Game

Known internationally as Nine Men's Morris, and by many regional names: Dhadi (దాడి, "the attack") in Telugu, Navakankari ("nine pebbles") in Sanskrit, Tamil, and Hindi, Saalu Mane Aata in Kannada — and Enneas (εννεάς, "nine") in ancient Greece, where boards are found carved into the Acropolis monuments. Place your nine pieces on three concentric squares and form rows of three (mills) to remove your opponent's pieces. When only three remain, pieces can fly anywhere.

How to play

• Alternate placing pieces on any empty intersection
• Form a "mill" (3 in a row) → remove any opponent piece
• After all pieces are placed, slide pieces one step along any line
• When reduced to 3 pieces, fly to any empty space on the board
• Win by reducing opponent to 2 pieces or blocking all their moves
